If you’ve been following the tips on this blog, by now you should have your website looking good to search engines and some visitors should be starting to get more targeted traffic naturally from search engines.  You should be feeling pretty good, too, because without spending a penny,  you have been able to increase site traffic without too much effort.  Here are a few more tips to help you increase site traffic;

1.  Local Business – Don’t forget to include your street address on every page of your website.  I can’t believe how many people forget to do this to get traffic!  You’ve spent so much time optimizing your page for internet visitors, so why not spend a few moments optimizing for local business traffic.  Afterall, you don’t even need to buy traffic this way because it won’t cost you a penny to include your street address, zip code, and phone number.  If you think that the majority of your traffic should come from local traffic, you should also include this information in your title tag, too.  And while you are at it, contact local businesses with a link exchange request.  In addition to this, you can create a free listing of your local business on Google Maps Local Business Center as well as Yahoo Local.  If you do that, your business will automatically show up on a mpa when people do a local search.

If your navigation is not search engine friendly, the search engine robots might not be able to read your site and that hurts your website marketing.   This is true especially if your site uses JavaScript and Flash. 2. Build A Site Map. Site maps are an essential website marketing tool these days. Site maps are easy to create and will help search engines find their way around all of the pages within your site. I personally like to use Google XML-Sitemap Generator which instanly builds blog sitemaps with just the click of a mouse. You can also use XML-Sitemaps.com to create sitemaps which will make your website recognizable by the major search engines. I cannot stress enough how important these tools are to website promotion.

3. Effective Website Promotion requires that each and every single one of your webpages on your site are focused on your target keywords. So, create a single page for each individual keyword or keyword phrase you are targeting. This will help you get a higher ranking for that particular keyword or phrase. For example, let’s say your are targeting teeth whitening. Use the free Google keyword suggestion tool to find related keywords to build pages around which people search heavily for. Pick as many words as you want to target, and create a separate page for each of these words on your website. You might find words like ‘teeth whitening kits’,
teeth whitening gel’, ‘tooth whitening’, ‘teeth bleaching’, etc. With each of these words, you will write a completely different article on each topic. This will help you with your website promotion.

1.  Put your keywords in the first paragraph.  As you might guess, people are not the only ones who consider the first paragraph as the most important paragraph.  Search engines also regard the first paragraph as the most important part of your web page.  That is where search engines are programmed to look for important keywords for the web page.  The first paragraph is typically an introduction to the content of the page.  Now, having said that, you should never simply stuff that first paragraph with your keywords.  This is a case where less might in fact be more.  So don’t over do it here.

2.  Using descriptive Alt Tags for your images on your web page will increase website traffic.  ALT tags are the little attributes which allow you to place your mouse over an image on a page and trigger a tiny descriptive text box to appear to the website visitor during the mouse over.  This also gives an extra clue to the search engine as to what the page is about, which will help your images actually get ranked very highly on search engines.  For example;  go to Google right now, do a search for a topic; then on the results page, near the top left, you will see several options such as ‘web’, ‘image’, ‘video’ etc.  Click on the ‘image’ option and you will be taken to the image search results for that keyword.  When you use the ALT tag properly, your image will appear and be ranked well in those results.  Don’t under estimate the amount of traffic that this tiny SEO attribute will bring you!

3.  Hyperlink your keywords:  Again, remember that the search engine robots are always looking for clues on your website.  Your goal is to make your keywords stand out, look more important than the rest of the content, and notice emphasis you place on your keywords which will in return, bring more web traffic.  So turning your keywords into hyperlinks helps you accomplish this.

Want to increase traffic to a website?  Got a website but not enough visitors?  Wondering how to promote a website?  All you need  is to follow a few simple strategies that will easily allow the search engines to promote your website for you  and before you know it, you will increase web traffic for free.  By employing simple SEO into your website, your pages will get indexed quicker, be listed in the organic search results higher, and give search engines clues about relevant content on your site.

For the next several days, I will be posting tips for you to use which will get search engines to notice your website, and increase web traffic, and make it easy for search engines to promote your website for you.

1.  Include your main keyword (or phrase) in your page title.   Each page on of your site will need a different title and each of these titles needs to be a keyword you are targeting in order for search engines to rank your page for that keyword.  Remove any filler words from your title while keeping it readable.  Once the search engine robots finds your title, your page title will show up as a hyperlink on the search engine.  With that in mind, your game plan will be to make the title provocative so that searchers will be enticed to click on it.

2.  Create an optimized description for your META Tag:  When you are browsing through search results on a search engine, you will find the clickable titles, followed by a brief description about the website.  These descriptions are usually only a couple of sentences long, describing the site content and contain keywords or keyword phrases.  When you are writing your web page description for your META Tag, do not include keywords that do not appear on your webpage.  The description META Tag should be at the top of the web page between the <HEAD></HEAD> tags.  Keep in mind that META Tags are not used much for ranking, but this is the information that searchers are shown when the search engine returns search results to the searcher.  That will help increase web traffic for you.

3.  Use Keywords in H1, H2, H3 Headers:   Search engines recognize H tags as more important the rest of the content and when used properly, will increase web traffic to your site.   That’s because, when you include keywords in your H tags, search engines know that is where the emphasis is, and considers those words most important and ranks them accordingly.
